1. Who we are

TradieSwap Ltd ("TradieSwap", "we", "us", "our") operates the TradieSwap marketplace at https://tradieswap.co.uk. TradieSwap connects homeowners with construction tradespeople.

TradieSwap Ltd is registered in England and Wales. Company no. 17250384. Registered office: 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA.

We are the data controller for personal data collected through the platform. Privacy and data protection enquiries: info@tradieswap.co.uk.

2. What we collect

From customers (homeowners):

  • Name, email address and phone number
  • Postcode and job location
  • Job descriptions and photos of the work area or property
  • Customer profile (display name, photo, location, about you)
  • Reviews you give and receive, and messages you send
  • Device and IP address information

From tradespeople:

  • Name, business name, email address, phone number and business address
  • Trade profile (trade type, coverage area, photos of work, bio, links)
  • Lead purchases and invoices
  • Reviews you give and receive, and messages you send
  • Device and IP address information

Verification files (trades): ID image/PDF, public liability insurance certificate and qualification evidence. These are stored privately and are visible only to our verification reviewers while a decision is pending — see section 5.

Card details: we never see or store your card number. Payments are processed by Stripe; we store only a reference to your saved payment method.

3. How we use your data and our legal reasons

Contract — to run your account, publish your job or profile, match trades with jobs, handle shortlisting and lead fees, and carry your messages. We need this data to provide the service you signed up for.

Legitimate interests — to keep the platform secure and prevent fraud, to rank and display listings, and to publish genuine two-way reviews. Both customers and trades are rated, so everyone can make an informed choice about who to work with; a customer's review score is visible to trades before they express interest in a job. We think most users would reasonably expect this, and it does not override your rights.

Legal obligation — tax, VAT and accounting records, and lawful requests from authorities such as HMRC, the ICO or the police.

Consent — marketing emails or SMS, and non-essential cookies. This is separate from creating an account and can be withdrawn at any time.

4. What other users can see

Visible to other users: your display name, trade profile, verification badges, review scores and written reviews, and job listings you have posted (as made visible to others).

Private until you shortlist a trade: a customer's phone number and email. They are shared with a trade only when the customer selects them and the lead fee is paid.

Never public: ID scans, insurance PDFs, qualification files, card details and passwords.

5. Verification documents and delete-after-check

When a trade uploads ID, public liability insurance or qualification evidence, the file is held privately in a document vault while our team (or an automated check) reviews it. Every access by a reviewer is logged.

Once the document passes or fails the check, the file itself is deleted. We keep only the outcome: the status (approved or rejected), dates, expiry (for insurance and qualifications), who verified it and a short reviewer note. The Verified badge can remain on the profile without the file. If insurance or a qualification expires, that part of the badge drops off until a new document is uploaded and approved.

6. Two-way reviews

Reviews are personal data. Reviews of trades and reviews of customers are published on the platform, showing the reviewer's display or business name (they are not anonymous). A customer's review score is shown to trades before they express interest in a job. Reviews can be left only when a job is marked complete on the platform — paying a lead fee alone does not unlock a review. See our Reviews Policy.

7. Who we share your data with

  • Stripe — payment processing and receipts
  • Base44 — hosting and app infrastructure
  • Our email (and, if enabled, SMS) provider, to deliver notifications
  • Other users, only as needed for a job — for example the contact details shared when a trade is selected
  • HMRC, the ICO or the police, where we are legally required

We do not sell your personal data.

8. International transfers

Stripe and Base44 may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on an adequacy decision or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / UK addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, so your data keeps UK-level protection.

9. How long we keep your data

  • Pending verification files: until a decision is made, then deleted immediately (and deleted automatically if still pending after 30 days)
  • Verified flags and expiry dates: while your account is active
  • Account and profile: while your account is active
  • Messages and jobs: while your account is active, then up to 12 months unless needed for a dispute
  • Reviews you leave: if you close your account, reviews stay on the other party's profile unless removed under the Reviews Policy
  • Invoices and lead-fee records: 6 years (tax and VAT law)

10. Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Use the tools in your account, or email info@tradieswap.co.uk. We reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

11. Children

TradieSwap is for users aged 18 and over only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

12. Security

We use HTTPS encryption, access controls and a private document vault for verification files. Every view of a pending verification file by an administrator is logged. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

13. Website and app

This policy covers both the TradieSwap website and the TradieSwap mobile app.

14. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

15. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we email registered users about them. We do not treat continued use of the platform as consent to those changes.
